Intellectual Property & Commercialisation
Ownership, licensing and contractual protection for the assets that distinguish your business.
A brand, technology or creative asset carries value only if the rights behind it are understood. Adad advises on the Qatar legal aspects of intellectual property ownership, commercialisation and disputes, connecting protection with the way the asset is developed, used and monetised.
We examine the chain of title, existing licences and the rights created by employees, contractors and collaborators. In an acquisition or investment, that analysis informs the assets being acquired, the permissions required and the contractual allocation of risk.
Licensing requires more than permission to use an asset. Territory, exclusivity, permitted uses, royalties, quality control, improvements and termination must reflect the commercial arrangement. We address those terms alongside confidentiality, technology transfer and the treatment of rights when a relationship ends.
For protection and enforcement, we assess the rights involved, the evidence and the available Qatar procedures. Registration and filing work is coordinated with appropriately authorised agents where required; specialist technical advice and foreign-law advice are obtained separately when the matter calls for them.
THE DECISIONS THAT MATTER
Title to the rights
Establish who owns the asset, how the rights arose and which licences or third-party interests restrict its use.
The commercial terms
Define the scope, territory, revenue, control and improvements that the proposed licence or transfer must address.
Protection and exit
Assess registration, evidence, enforcement and the rights retained when a contract or investment ends.
